| With a BA (Hons) and MLitt already under my belt, I am currently undertaking a PhD at The University of Glasgow and am very passionate about my subjects. I am now entering the second year of my doctoral research and during the first year I was the student rep for the Arts and Humanities Postgraduate School Board; organised and presented at an Internional Conference; organised and presented at the departmental postgraduate symposium; attended a conference in London and participated in several workshops on various aspects of research and writing of a PhD thesis.
My undergraduate degree in Media: Theory and Production allowed me to cover many aspects of the media including journalism, cinema, television, radio and theatre from both practical and theoretical perspectives. My Master of Literature degree allowed me to take the theoretical aspects learned at undergraduate level and apply them to both written and visual media by analysing a range of visual cinema and academic critical writings on cinema. Both degrees also included dissertation pieces: at the commence of the BA (Hons) I produced a 10,000 word piece looking at the deeper social and psychological aspects of 1940s melodrama and for my 15,000 word MLitt dissertation I analysed the manifestations of Gene Kelly\\\'s auteurism.
During the postgraduate degree I ran a screening class, a seminar on star studies, hosted a lecture on star-as-body and took part in three postgraduate symposiums.
During my undergraduate degree I had 20 articles published in various society newsletters and magazines including The Sinatra Music Society, The International Crosby Circle, Movie Memories and The John Wayne Film Society. I also undertook a placement at CML (Community Media Limited) in Glasgow where I worked as a reporter for several local newspapers.
I also work as a NMPH (Non-Medical Personal Helper) as a note-taker and proof reader for disabled students at the University of the West of Scotland. |

| I found Gillian's teaching style very helpful as the lessons were pre planned efficiently to what i felt i needed help with. Our literature discussions were always aimed to push me out of my comfort zones in terms of my ideas and writing techniques which helped me enormously. I feel I can comfortable say that my two As at IGCSE English is largely thanks to Gillian's help. Targeted help exactly when needed, overall excellent. |

| Gillian has worked in a creative and effective way to support my son, Patrick, with his English Lit and Media Studies A Levels. Gillian has been able to quickly develop a positive rapport and space to respond to the areas needed to supplement his Sixth Form studies. Patrick has found Gillian's sessions motivating and they provide a focus for revision. They also contribute to developing greater condfidence for more independent study and class contribution. Gillian has a very supportive style and I would strongly recommend her work. |
